Context
The Carbon Trust promotes awareness of climate change to businesses and public sector organisations; they offer strategies to reduce carbon emissions and support the development of low carbon technologies.
Challenge
The Carbon Trust began working with cScape in 2004, when they asked us to build a microsite to reinforce a national campaign using press, television, internet and poster advertising. The main CT website was under review for a major redesign so building the microsite was crucial to support the new campaign. The Carbon Trust was aware of its target audiences – it wanted to communicate specific information to each grouping and provide them with the tools to follow its message through.
Solution
cScape helped the Carbon Trust to translate their information into the web environment. The site is structured to lead visitors to apply for information packs pertinent to their level of influence: corporate, operational or personal. In addition to design and development we provided consultancy on information architecture and taxonomy to ensure that users would navigate to the correct resources intuitively. cScape also implemented tracking tools for statistical measurement and analysis.
Outcome
The success of the project was proved by the continued use of the site to support promotional campaigns in offline and online media. cScape has been progressively updating and extending this microsite, which is now a fulcrum for other media activity. The flexible structure of the site allowed simple modifications and enhancements to support campaigns, while the main website was being redesigned. It was a flexible and pragmatic way of maintaining an online media presence while the main Carbon Trust site was in development.
