Context
Barclays is one of the largest financial services companies in the world, engaged primarily in banking, investment banking and investment management. cScape created an intranet for Barclays' Global Retail and Commercial Banking (GRCB), which employs around 2,500 people, is dedicated to keeping the company's IT running smoothly and to enable the acceleration of Barclays' future international growth.
Challenge
Barclays' Global Retail and Commercial Banking (GRCB ) – the leading global IT services provider – wanted a new intranet to be used as a tool for making the management more transparent and accessible. The GRCB team wanted to communicate its success stories and promote its work throughout Barclays, inspiring employees to take an interest in its future strategic direction. In cScape's interviews and workshops with leading stakeholders and employees, the shortcomings of the existing intranet became apparent. With out-of-date content, inconsistent branding, an awkward publishing process and poor ease-of-use, the intranet needed a major shape-up.
Solution
cScape built the new intranet on SharePoint Server 2003, giving it a whole new look-and-feel. cScape's designs were also extended across other Barclays sites. A key feature of the revamped intranet is an entirely new publishing process, with an editorial strategy devised by cScape. The new editorial team solicits and collates content from across Barclays’ IT departments, giving them a consistent channel of communication that is closely aligned with its leadership and with its myriad IT projects, services and departments. The editor gives the GRCB a human face, greatly improving its profile.
Outcome
Barclay's GRCB now has a timely new-look intranet that is a trusted source of information for diverse audiences who engage with it as part of their working routines. By clarifying the GRCB's IT vision and strategy, the intranet will give clients and colleagues a better understanding of the organisation’s role. Over time, it will be an indispensable tool for IT staff to manage their relationship with the rest of the GRCB, and an essential resource for any Barlcays department needing a GRCB service.
